Formcase CO2 Minus Mission

Formcase co2 minus

We have been dealing with the issue of sustainability for years and take into account all possible environmental aspects in the manufacture of our products wherever possible. For us, sustainability is also characterised by the fact that products can fulfil their purpose for as long as possible and do not have to be replaced in short periods of time because they are no longer adaptable for their current purpose.

Our Transformer Cases are designed to fulfill their purpose for a whole generation of students. Our product name says it all! We can adapt our Transformer Cases to a new purpose even after years, be it by replacing the electronics with more powerful ones or by converting the system from an active system (with electronics) to a passive system (sockets).

Why is this necessary? Manufacturers of tablets adapt their product families every year, and it is not uncommon for a higher performance to be required for the new devices, or in the case of a change of manufacturer, it is necessary to replace the electronics used with a more powerful one or even with a socket solution. With the Transformer models, this can be achieved easily, even after years, by replacing just a few parts. Thus, the system can be used for 10 years and more.

This did not seem enough to us! In our opinion, the worldwide rapid increase in CO2 can no longer be met by CO2 neutrality! We have therefore committed ourselves to finding a way to make our products CO2 minus compliant.

In cooperation with carbonauten GmbH from Germany and the company Plaber from Italy. Plaber is the Italian manufacturer of the advanced protective hard cases branded HPRC | High Performance Resin Cases. We have succeeded in producing our basic suitcases from a carbonauten CO2-minus material, which allows us to permanently bind CO2 from the atmosphere in an everyday product and thus actively reduce CO2 pollution.

In the hope that many will follow our example and we can thus contribute a small part to keeping our planet liveable for the current generation of pupils and students.

Formcase - Carbonauten

Carbon C is the basis for organic life in the universe. It occurs in material form or in gaseous form – including carbon dioxide, CO2. Plants have been the most efficient CO2 storage machines for millions of years – and the most beautiful ones at that. They use CO2 to build up their biomass. Through photosynthesis, they retain the C and give us the O2 to breathe.

A tree consists of about 50% carbon. At the end of life, it is metabolized by microorganisms. This releases the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. This rotting process is stopped by pyrolytic carbonization (heating without oxygen) between 400° and 700°C. This creates physically stable, technical biocarbons that no longer rot and thus permanently prevent the formation of CO2.

Minus CO2 by Formcase

At the same time, the carbonauten technology, as a biorefinery, produces high-quality biodistillates as platform biochemicals for agriculture, pharmaceuticals and chemistry, as well as renewable energy that can be used as a base load.

The technical biocarbons are specifically refined to CO2-negative carbonaut NET-Materials ® for various markets and applications. The carbonaut system thus enables the material and energetic cascade use of biomass residues and a value chain that is as deep as possible.

Supermaterial Biocarbon

Carbon C is the fourth most abundant element in the universe and is a basic requirement for organic life. Humans are made up of over one quarter of carbon. Fossil carbons such as petroleum, coal and natural gas are the remains of primeval biomasses compressed under pressure and heat.

Technical biocarbon produced in “minus CO2 factories” are multi-talented as they bind and store CO2, resist environmental influences and UV radiation, resist heat to several hundred degrees Celsius, effect hardening and dimensional stability and create black as natural product color.

The Mission

Cooperation and solidarity are the basis for effectively counteracting climate escalation. The carbonauten cannot do this alone, but they see themselves as a significant and inspiring part of a collective effort by humanity. The cooperation between Formcase, carbonauten and Plaber is a step in the right direction.
